This is a great example of a superb quality and rare George III oak dresser with wonderful colour and patina. A real statement piece that is just waiting to grace its new setting.

The moulded cornice sits above a wonderfully shaped and pierced frieze of 17 love hearts, each alternate heart with wing-like mouldings. The pretty frieze sits above an open rack consisting of three scalloped edged shelves, one long, over two shorter shelves. Each shelf has a plate bead/rail to stop the plates sliding forward. The shelves are flanked by two panelled cupboards each opening to reveal two small shelves and storage space. Below, the base with plank top and mahogany cross-banding has three large, deep drawers. The drawers are also mahogany cross-banded and have two oval brass drop plate handles on each. The whole stands on four straight tapering legs.

Because of the beautiful heart frieze we believe this to be a betrothal or marriage dresser perhaps commissioned for two newly weds by their families, or by a husband for his wife as hearts are a symbol for love.

This dresser has wonderful patina and boasts a superb rich golden oak colour, which has been created from 200 years of use. It has clearly been well looked after over the years and is a stunning example of a fine Georgian dresser. It is in excellent condition, with nominal signs of wear to the top of the dresser, all commensurate with decades of use.

This is a wonderful piece of furniture, full of character and ready to use.
